The belief at Tufts is that while vet students must learn about animals, there is a multitude of ways to learn without the use of terminal animal labs. Instead of using dog labs, Tufts is giving students hands-on experience with their spay/neuter clinic, helping animals instead of sacrificing them. In addition to eliminated dog labs, Tufts instituted an Educational Memorial Program. Tufts procures animal cadavers from animals who have died of or been euthanized due to natural causes rather than purposely killing an animal for educational purposes.
